Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate of women¡¯s knowledge and screening behaviors for breast cancer in Pusan by survey.

Materials and Methods: This study included 114 inhabitant women, who participated voluntarily in free screening program for early detection of breast cancer. The questionnaire was composed of age of participant, questions for knowledge of breast cancer, attitude and behaviors related to breast cancer screening. The ages of participants ranged from 34 to 74 years (mean age: 50.8 years). We compared this study with previous studies in Hwasun-gun and Seoul.

Results: Sixty-one percent of participants had been performed breast self examination and sixty-three percent of participants had been performed screening mammography. The most frequent cause of related breast cancer screening was regular check-ups and the most frequent barrier was inconvenience of take time. In knowledge of breast cancer, mean value of correct answer was 2.02 and was statistically significant higher than in previous surveys of Hwasun-gun and Seoul (p=0.039, p<0.0005).

Conclusion: These data suggest that active public relations and education are essential for early detection of breast cancer. This study may be applied to plan and develop screening program.
